Safety & Hygiene

The school has skilled house-keeping staff who work under effective supervision to ensure optimum hygiene throughout the campus. Frequent inspections by administrative teams and surprise visits made by select administrative officers further ensure cleanliness in and around the school. Our house-keeping staff are routinely trained to ensure ever-improving quality of work. In addition, all the toilets in our school are cleaned and sanitised regularly.

Our campus has multiple RO-purified water coolers that carry fresh, safe, and clean drinking water for all. The quality of our water supply is thoroughly monitored and tested year-round.

All our classes are monitored by teachers without cessation. During breaks as well as lunch times, our faculty keeps an eye on the students.

We assign these mandatory duties to our teachers in the official duty register. Any non-disciplinary issues are addressed without delay. We also nurture an environment of integrity in which students are expected to follow mindful and proper codes of conduct. Our institution’s rules encourage our students to behave appropriately, compassionately, and respectfully.

Additionally, we maintain round-the-clock campus guards who maintain high safety standards for our students. Identity cards issued to students and staff are worn mandatorily to help us maintain order and safety throughout the campus.

Teachers who are travelling in buses are also tasked with monitoring students/children during their morning/evening commutes. This is in addition to the duties of our bus maids.

Curriculum

The teacher-student ratio is approximately 1:14 at our school.

Formal assessments begin from middle school. We follow a system of formative and summative assessments, which include a mixture of cycle tests, projects, presentations, and quizzes, all of which are designed to enhance a student’s written and oral skills.

A record of each student’s academic progress, cognitive development, and physical health is maintained by their respective class teachers and shared periodically with the student’s parents.

Our school is committed to inclusive education. We combine pedagogy with philosophy to ensure that every student is respected and feels secure. Moreover, our school is structured in such a way that every student feels accepted and encouraged for who they are and what they hope to achieve. To facilitate these objectives, we maintain diverse all-inclusive learning models.

English is the main medium of instruction at our school. Tamil is taught till Grade 5 as prescribed by NEP 2020 (mother tongue / home language / local language). A third language is offered from classes 6 to 8, with the options being Tamil, French and Hindi; options depend on the second language previously chosen by the student. We believe in promoting multilingualism and tapping into the power of language to improve learning.

We avoid giving any of our students homework, because we believe in actively teaching them whatever they need to know about a subject right here in school. However, if any student has incomplete or pending class assignments, we will assign those as homework so they don’t waste time and can keep up with the rest of their classmates.

Our teachers recognize the importance of differential learning methods. Based on this, lessons are designed to provide optimum appeal to visual, kinesthetic, and spatial learners. International methods of teaching are implemented in all our classrooms.

Even outside the classroom, our teaching models extend into educational student-teacher interactions, presentations, projects, and activity-based learning. The latter includes collaborative, experimental, and experiential learning, not to forget self-study and peer teaching.

We take the saying “There is no holiday for learning” seriously.

Co-curricular Activities

Co-curricular activities are designed to impart learning, leadership, and fun. They are an integral part of the annual school calendar and encompass activities in the following categories: performing arts, fine arts, literary and creative-writing, sports, environment, science, and heritage.

They also encourage interactions with achievers and role models. In middle school, our co-curriculars comprise intra-school, inter-school, regional, state, and/or national events.

After-school activities are also provided to children from class 1 and up. These include sports coaching, drama and theatre classes, photography classes, etc.

In middle school, some of these activities occur through student initiatives in different clubs – Literary, Debating, Drama, Music, Computer Science, Environment, etc.

Our aim is to provide holistic learning opportunities for every student through diverse portals and activities. This includes drawing out their talent and potential by acknowledging and cultivating their strengths.

We believe in taking education beyond just textbooks and curriculums. Our school is, therefore, structured to include both academic and extracurricular pursuits in equal measure. We encourage excellence as we guide students to make the most of the opportunities offered at our school.

Every child is allowed to dream and follow that dream. With our school and faculty acting as mentor, facilitator, and guide to channel their aspirations and abilities, we believe we can prepare the next generation of confident, forward-thinking individuals and bestow them with great leadership capabilities, memorable personalities, and balanced mindsets.

Activity clubs are in place to explore the potential of students in fine arts, theatre, and other co-curricular activities. There is early morning coaching for class 3 and above. Interested students can join it before or after school hours. Fees are based on activity.

Sports

Depending on the potential and calibre of the student, preference will indeed be given to their individual choice. However, after carrying out performance assessments in various sporting activities, the student will be recommended a particular sport above all others, because our qualified staff may have found them capable of excelling in that recommended sport.

Sports are one of the top priorities at our School. There is an early morning coaching session for middle school students and house teams. We also have after-school classes that provide Soccer, Volleyball, and Basketball coaching on an extra paid basis.

We also have intra-school and inter-school tournaments, including at the district, regiona, and national levels that cover a variety of sports disciplines.

Our campus has open playing fields that are also used for scheduled physical education classes. Experienced educators ensure that all students participate in sports and exercises based on their age and other factors.

Ambitious sports programs with state-of-the-art equipment and international-grade facilities are also available on our campus.

Parental Involvement

There are regular parent-teacher meetings held in school at the end of every term – quarterly, half-yearly, annually. Also, formal report cards are sent out thrice a year. A system for non-reporting parent-teacher meets is also in place.

Additionally, specific days are assigned for each class student whose parents can walk-in to meet the teachers after making a prior appointment.

The school communicates with parents through our official website, which provides access to all our newsletters, text messages, e-mails, and school diaries.

Scheduled communication between teachers and parents include parent-teacher meetings, end of term reports, and appointment-based meetings.

Aside from these, teachers can meet with parents whenever the need arises. Also, informal communication is permitted during school events.

Our website contains all the information parents will want to know about our school and its various programs and events. It also contains pertinent information about how each classroom implements essential tools and infrastructure to provide top quality education to all students.

The school encourages the involvement of parents. For starters, we have an active Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) which meets periodically to discuss various activities and events happening in and around the school.

Parents’ suggestions are taken seriously and we find ways to implement any productive ideas and recommendations within a reasonable time frame.

Parents are also encouraged to become volunteers and work with school students and staff on academic and extra-curricular workshops, authorised trip accompaniments, and sundry programs and events.

Applications & Admissions

We indeed accept student applications from other educational institutions, subject to the parameters laid down by our school.

With the exception of admissions to LKG, admissions to other classes at our school depends on vacancy or seat availability.

Careers at SMV School

The applicant is first expected to submit their resume/CV. If there is a vacancy, we will set up an interview with the school principal. This is followed by three demo classes and the filling out of personal data forms.

Based on the outcome of these stages, a follow-up assessment is made that takes into consideration the applicant’s subject expertise, ability to communicate knowledge of their subject, class dynamics handling capabilities, and other valued educator qualities.
